Getting Great Links to Your Blog.

The power of the link can not be underestimated by the blogger. Achieving some great inbound links from high PR sites can boost traffic to the blog and increase the overall readership of the blog. Achieving these great links is about more than just slapping a url into the comments of another blog or on a forum. Sometimes the least thought about links are the ones the provide the most traffic for the blog.

Every time you set up a forum account or an email account, you are given the opportunity to enter information in the form of a signature. While many people never use this function, that is not the right decision if you are trying to promote your blog.

In the forum setting, the signature line will count as an inbound link to your blog. That means, you do not have to worry about spamming comments or adding the link to your forum post, every time you respond in the forum or create a new topic, the link to your blog will appear in the signature link. One point for forum signatures!

In the email setting, the marketing tactic is a little different. Many people add simply funny quotes or interesting saying into the signature line of their email. For the blogger, this is the perfect place to add yet another link. While this link will not count as an inbound link, it does count as free advertisement. Every time you create an email and respond to an email, another link is out there for the world to click and reach your blog.

In order to create a successful blog, you have to let everyone know the blog is there. The forum signature can slowly help with the PR, and the email signature can help with the advertising. Promoting your blog has never been easier or more stress FREE.

The Basics of Creating a User Friendly Blog.

Blogs, they are visited by the hundreds of thousands every day and the creators of these blogs love the fact that viewers want and need to read the comments they place on the page. But, the success of a blog relies more on what the blog looks like, at times, than the content provided by the blogger. If the blog is hard to read, and user un-friendly, that blog can give the cure for cancer and no one will ever notice it is there.

When creating a blog with the viewer in mind, follow these tips and tricks:

  • Give the reader an easy eyeful. Creating a blog from calming colors and matching themes can be a great step for a blogger. Clashing colors and flashing banners may look appealing to you, but a reader will not want to spend minutes on your site reading through blogs if they have a sudden need to do the disco dance.
  • Add style to your icons. Not all icons are created the same. RSS icons, for instance, can be normal and boring, or stylish and hip. Stylishlabs is one company that will create RSS icons that are new and different with just enough of the traditional icon to tell readers what they are clicking on.
  • Do not over monetize. If there are too many ads on a site, the content you are offering the reader will get lost in those ads. Place just enough ads on the site to make it worth your while, but tastefully enough to keep the page looking like a blog and not a billboard.

Blogging can be a fun and exciting part of life. But, many bloggers look too often at what will SELL and not enough at what will keep the reader on the page. Getting hits to a blog is not good enough, you want people to read the content on your blog,k feel comfortable in your blog and return to your blog over and over again!

Making Money with Ads: Google is not the Only Choice.

Google Adsense is probably the most well known ad provider for websites and blogs. The brand recall associated with Google and the trust surrounding the name, leads many to believe they are the only choice for click through ads on their Internet space. But, Google is NOT the only provider and they may not be the best provider for your content.

In addition to Google Adsense, there are Yahoo ads, Chitika ads, and Textlinkads all of which earn the blogger money when viewers click through the ads to the corresponding website. These ads are all very similar to the default Google ads, in that, the blogger has little or no control over the specific sites to which the ads link. The only control a blog can assume, as a matter of fact, is in the creation of the content for the blog itself. Click through ads are chosen for a blog based upon the keywords that are most prevalent within the content. If you have written about sex (in a medical aspect) in 100 blogs, you can be sure the ads are going to display the word “sex” over and over again. And, these ads may not be medical in nature.

Click through ads are certainly not the only choice for monetizing a blog. Payperpost and ReviewMe are two additional choices for making money with your blog without the use of Google Adsense. These programs center on selling blog postings. This can be great for an occasional blog post here and there, but many of the sites require a certain number of blog postings that are unpaid to be placed between the paid postings. There are also limits placed on the amount of “paid” blog postings that can be written in a given period of time.

Your blog can make you money and Google Adsense is not the only choice. If click through ads is something you are looking for, check out the other available sites and compare the click through pay amount. Some companies pay more for a click while others mere cents. If moving away from ads is a better choice for your blog, selling that blog space can give you a few extra bucks each month and the more blogs you maintain, the more paid postings you can complete.

A few alternatives to Google AdSense:

QR code WordPress plugin.

WP-QRcode is a highly configurable plugin that generates QR codes for your blog posts and lets you show them in specific places in your WordPress website. The purpose is for mobile phone users to have easy access to your posts by capturing the QR code by the phone’s camera and then go straightly to your post from the phone’s web browser. (Someone may probably choose to use it just for the coolness factor.)
  • You can control what to include in the QR code, including the post’s URL (permalink), title and/or time.
  • Several parameters of the QR code can be adjusted, such as the version, size and error correction level.

Make Money With RSS Feeds.

There are two different types of pages on the web. There are static pages and there are dynamic pages. One of these pages can make your blog a money making machine, the other…not so much. The key to making money with your blog is to move your blog from being a dynamic page to a static page.

A static web page is one that does not update often. A blogger that updates their blog once a day or twice a day may feel they are updating the information all the time. But, this is still considered a static page. Our world constantly updates news information, press releases and breaking stories. Two posts a day can not compare to the constant stream of information hitting the Internet waves by the minute.

Dynamic pages, on the other hand, are updated on a constant basis. Dynamic pages are indexed by search engines much more frequently due to the constant influx of information being posted on the site. Here in lies the need for an RSS feed. Once you place an feed of constantly updating information on your blog, your page moves from static to Dynamic.

The new dynamc blog will have fresh information and content constantly being updated on the site and therefore will steadily climb the ranks of the search engines. The higher the rank, the more traffic the blog will get and, in turn, the more money the blog will make over time.

Beware though, when setting up the RSS feeders on your blog, make sure to stick with the niche of the blog. There is nothing worse than having your blog indexed for a woman’s health topic and attracting visitors to the blog you have set up talking about some irrelevant issue. So, add that self updating RSS feed and watch your views increase.

Creating an SEO Friendly Blog.

There are bloggers out there who simply create a blog for the therapeutic quality of blog posting. There are other bloggers, business bloggers if you will, that have decided to monetize their blog and make a little extra money. The art of SEO, search engine optimization, is at the heart of changing a blog from personal to business.

SEO is a widely used term that refers to a websites, web pages or blogs ability to be noticed by webcrawlers. Webcrawlers are “robots” employed by search engines to seek out new content on the Internet and index that content in search engine rankings based upon a secret set of criteria. While that criteria formula is left unknown to bloggers, they can create an SEO friendly blog that will give the blog a step up in the rankings.

Essentially. Webcrawlers are looking for keywords. The keywords for your blog will center on the blogs niche, or central theme. If you are writing about women’s health, the keyword for the blog will be “women’s health”. But, there are millions of websites and blogs aimed at the same keyword. So, how can your blog be noticed above the others? Here are a few SEO blogging tips.

  • Blog well. An effective blog posting is not going to be 100 words. In order to provide relevant information for both the reader and the webcrawlers you will need to create substantial blog postings. These blog postings will need to employ SEO writing tactics in order to maximize the keyword density % for the content. Generally, a keyword density of 2% - 5% is ideal for a webcrawler.
  • Blog often. Updating your blog daily with such informative posts is just as important as providing great content. Daily, or even twice daily, blog postings will flag your blog as “active” and the webcrawlers will eventually begin to visit your blog for indexing much more often.
  • Write for the web. Writing for the Internet is much different than writing a research paper for school. Web content needs to follow a concise set of rules. These rules include, writing short paragraphs and including the keywords for your blog within the first and last paragraphs of the content.

SEO practices are what makes the difference between a blog being just a nickel and dime piece of web space and a relevant money maker for the blogger.
